Starting Points for Better UX Writing

This is the title of a free ebook I’ve just released.

You can download it without giving me anything: not money, your personal details, a pledge to follow its advice, nothing.

It’s yours. So what’s in it?

Four topics:

  1. Principles
This section focuses on the basic principles of good UX writing, like The Process, and how to create your own branded UX writing principles that can sit alongside branded design principles.
  2. Grammar
Here I explain the key grammar points you need to know to write conversational UX text, from personal pronouns to avoiding the passive voice.
  3. Language
Here we consider language points like reading level, tone of voice, respectful writing and more, more, more!
  4. Applications
The final section pulls everything together as we look at real-world applications of UX writing in areas like errors, onboarding, and in-product help.

Ultimately, the ebook is a collection of everything we’ve talked about in my Word Design Doctor newsletter over the last year, sensibly organised and with slightly less of my trademark chit-chat.

So what are you waiting for? Download it free, have a read, and let me know if it helps!
